We offer a variety of spinal care techniques and ensure patient comfort and professionalism in all of our disciplines. We are experienced in the Diversified Techniques, Thompson Techniques, Gonstead Techniques, Activator Techniques, Logan Basic, Injury Recall Technique, and Atlas Specific Adjustments. We also use stress tests, pressure tests, orthopedic and neurological tests, as well as some applied kinesiology concepts involving muscle testing to help identify problem areas.
We Combine Several Therapeutic & Wellness Techniques
In our office we combine several therapeutic and wellness techniques to help relieve pain, increase blood flow, increase lymph flow and increase range of motion in problem areas. To help maintain the balance and structure of your bones and muscles, we have incorporated an active-therapy program. Active-therapy combines massage, stretching, strengthening, and controlled breathing to help maintain overall body stability. Active-therapy helps train muscle groups. This results in an overall increase in posture control which helps maintain spinal structure.
Optimal Health
The St. Albans Spinal Wellness Centre approach addresses needs on the physical, chemical , and emotional levels. This approach allows optimal health to be maintained, balance to be restored and ultimately results in an increased quality of life.
The Importance of Balance
Maintaining balance is the most important part of our daily lives. Keeping a balanced schedule; doing our best to manage time for self, family, friends, and work. Balancing or budget; living within our means so that we may pay bills, invest, or spend as we desire. Eating a balanced diet; maintaining physical strength and conditioning. Whatever the case, we are in a constant state of trying to maintain balance in our lives. Most would agree that too much or too little of any one thing can totally disrupt the state of balance. The inability to balance our schedules would force us to live lives of constant stress and panic. This stress would cause a chemical imbalance in our body and ultimately lead to a state of decreased health and overall body function. This same stress can also cause muscle tension and since muscles are attached to bones, bony misalignments or subluxations can also occur. The inability to balance our budget would cause us to live lives full of worry and frustration. Worry and frustration also contribute to stress which disrupts balance in our lives and decreases the quality of life in which we desire to live. Not eating a healthy diet or not living a health conscious lifestyle significantly decreases our quality of life. Certain vitamins and nutrients are essential in maintaining a healthy body. A certain amount of physical exercise and activity also contributes to optimal performance from our bodies. Balancing our lives starts with a balanced nervous system. If we want optimal performance from our body we must give our body the greatest opportunity. Eliminating interference with spinal care gives our body the greatest opportunity to perform at its optimal level.
Spinal Care's Role in Maintaining Balance
Spinal Care deals with the balancing of your central nervous system. The central nervous system is the most important system in your body because it has complete control over all the other systems in your body. Your central nervous system is composed of your brain and your spinal cord. Your spinal cord is protected by your spinal column which is made of twenty-four movable segments called vertebrae, your sacrum and your coccyx (tail-bone).
These vertebrae start at the base of your skull and extend down your back to your coccyx. Extending from your spinal cord are spinal nerves. These spinal nerves exit gaps/holes created in your spinal column carrying messages from the brain to every organ in your body. These communication pathways from the brain to the organ and from the organ back to the brain allow the body to function and operate at its highest level. Problems occur when our vertebrae in our spinal column move out of place or become misaligned. This misalignment is called a subluxation.
Subluxations
Subluxations are defined as a vertebral misalignment that puts pressure on or interferes with the nerve exiting at that area of the spinal column. Subluxations can have a variety of causes. The main two are traumas and micro-traumas. Traumas which include, but are not limited to: falls, car accidents, direct force, improper posture while lifting, over exertion, etc. Micro-Traumas are repetitive postural habits that we repeat on a daily basis; sitting in a slouched position, holding the phone between your ear and shoulder for long periods of time, always sleeping on the same side, carrying heavy bags on the same side (shoulder/arm), walking posture, driving posture, etc.
Spinal Specialists
Spinal Specialists are trained professionals who locate, analyze, and correct vertebral subluxations. Spinal Specialists are also trained to adjust or correct misalignments affecting the lower extremities, upper extremities, and the head. We utilize subjective findings, objective findings, orthopedic and neurological testing, physical examinations, muscle tests, and radiographic findings to identify the problem. Once the problem has been identified we address the issue and find the solution.
